Ama - in Japanese culture, traditional divers, known for catching pearls. It is a profession practiced almost exclusively by women. Ama, or more precisely 'woman of the sea', can hold her breath for a longer time than men, and does not freeze under water thanks to well-developed subtissue fat .                                                                        
Ama - is an independent member of the family, traditionally a woman of the sea could choose her own husband.                                                     
At parties, Ala dresses up as a mermaid. She wears pearls around her neck.
